March 17, 2014 and winter is still here!

I don’t know about you, but I am so tired of winter. I am done with the cold dreary weather. Maybe it was the 18 years we spent in So Cal or maybe I am just getting older but I miss warm winters.

I was hoping we would be planting away for spring and raising baby chickens and goats in warm weather. Well we have our chickens,  20140317-162439.jpg

in fact, our second batch of chickens have arrived.20140317-162638.jpg

We are still waiting on our goats. A couple more weeks to go. Maybe it will be warm by then…

We did get some of our new garden turned last weekend in the warmer weather with the tractor, but there is still so much to be done before planting! Unfortunately, the ground is wet and it slows everything down.

Our layers are starting to crank up the laying again. We average 12-15 eggs a day. The damp rain and sleet doesn’t seem to stop the layers or the turkeys. 20140317-162547.jpg

Speaking of turkeys, they are laying eggs too. We hope to have some Midget White turkeys for Thanksgiving!

I am so thankful for my hubby. He must really love me. He bought a pair of pink insulated overalls for Christmas. They were definitely on my wish list and have been wonderful in this nasty weather. It will be nice, though, when I just look normal walking across the farm instead of looking like a big pink and yellow stay puff marshmallow!
