Rufus the Dufus has passed on to the great chicken house

It is with great sadness that I must tell you of the passing of our friend, Rufus. Rufus was probably our friendliest chicken, running up to you and pecking your feet when he was young. Always available to be picked up because he wasn’t always paying attention. Often played with by Tucker the dog.

Always a very slim rooster, Rufus had a crossed beak which made it harder to eat, but he always managed. We would periodically trim his beak, but it remained crossed for his entire two years of life.

He may have had troubles being the smallest chicken in the hen house, but he always managed to fulfill his roosterly duties.

Rufus the Dufus was laid to rest along with a few others of his kind in our chicken graveyard. Keep crowing your tiny little crow, Rufus. You managed to make us smile often.
