Turkey

Wowzer! What a year this has been! And we’re not done yet! BUT it is time to think about the holidays and your turkey. (Things will get better! I’m thinking positively.)

Broad Breasted White turkeys are what we raise. They are fed a locally produced certified organic soy free feed along with all the bugs and grass they like from our pastures. Did you know we’ve been using this soy free feed for all our poultry for 4 years now? We think it is one of the best decisions we’ve made. This year we are raising 40 turkeys. We may also have 2-3 heritage turkeys available, (Narragansetts). If you are interested, contact me directly.

Last year my husband was still traveling. This year, I have a farm hand! His work is gone and doesn’t look like it will return for another minimum of 12-18 months, so he is here to help out with the turkeys. Since we are Small Poultry Producers, we will be harvesting on farm as usual, never shipping the birds off to slaughterhouses, which can increase the chance for contamination of pathogens from other birds, stress and any chemicals the processor may use.

We like to offer a fresh turkey for thanksgiving but if you are looking for a smaller bird, we will need to harvest it early and freeze it for you. Generally fresh turkeys run in the 18 – 20+ lb range. Anything smaller will be frozen. We got all our baby poults at the same time in June and they like to eat… and grow! So keep in mind the longer they grow, the bigger they get. How fast the turkeys grow depends on the heat and rain and that will dictate if we need to harvest early. Weather plays a big factor in how quickly they grow.

If you would like to order a turkey, contact me for an order form.

We are planning for fresh birds to be available for pickup on Tuesday, Nov 24. If you are requesting a smaller frozen bird, we will let you know when it is ready for pickup. Pickup will be at our farm.

The price is $7.50 a pound. A $35 deposit is required at this time to reserve your bird. Feel free to mail a check to Andreas Homestead to the above address or if you prefer, we can send you a PayPal invoice. If you want to mail a check, send me a quick email or text to let me know it’s on the way. I’ll keep an eye on the mail for it. Once we receive your form and deposit your order will be confirmed.

We look forward to serving you again! Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,
Lynn and Mike Andreas
