We are taking turkey orders for Thanksgiving! Have you placed your order? We have received quite a few orders but we still have some available. Last year was such a hit we had a waiting list and were unable to offer a turkey to everyone that wanted one so we have decided to raise more. This year we are raising two breeds: the typical grocery store Broad Breasted Whites (which ranged in weight 15-26 lbs last year) and a heritage turkey called a Midget White. The Midget whites will allow us to offer a smaller turkey (8-14 lbs) for those that do not want a large bird.

“The Midget White turkey was created in the early 1960s by Dr. J. Robert Smyth at the University of Massachusetts. It was developed to meet an anticipated demand for a small version of the broad breasted turkey. Since this market did not develop as predicted, the Midget White never become widely popular. The Midget White, with its broad breast, has the appearance of a miniature of the commercial Broad Breasted White turkey. This quality provides the variety with good meat production and makes the Midget White a fine table fowl.”  http://www.livestockconservancy.org/index.php/heritage/internal/midgetwhite

We hope by including the Midget Whites we will be able to better accommodate the demands of our clientele.

If you would like more information or want to place an order come see us at the Apex Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, from 9-1.  Sorry, local pick up only.
